In just one year, about 15 million pencils are manufactured, used, and tossed in the trash. Not bad for an item that’s facing decline due to computers, but it’s not great for the environment. So one company decided to design pencils that serve a bigger purpose.
Sprout World creates pencils that, once you’ve worn them down to the nub, can be placed in the dirt to grow new life. Instead of an eraser, these come with biodegradable capsules which contain peat and seeds for you to plant anywhere you please. And with a wide variety of options, you could end up with an entire garden of eco-friendly blooms!
CEO Michael Stausholm backed the product because of its emphasis on sustainability.
They know that a simple pencil won’t make any drastic change in the world…
…but they hope that it inspires more ways for our items to become eco-friendly.
They come in both standard and colored varieties.
You can grab a pack of 8 for $19.95, and they’re working on making the price even lower.
